“At that point the hospital recommended that I needed skilled nursing and rehab, so I looked online with my family. I had seen the reviews for The Emeralds at St Paul. The reviews said adequate therapy and services. I have been to a lot of skilled nursing facilities and I wanted to try something different. I came and I was shocked! The care and the people are great, which is why I wanted to write this testimonial. This team saved my life. Evans, who is an nurse, took care of me. My proud moment is the day I was not feeling well and, due to Evans’s actions, he called 911 and the ambulance came and rushed me to the hospital. My heart was failing. I was given a pace maker. After that, I returned back to The Emeralds at St. Paul for more rehab and nursing care. Aside from the care, the food was excellent until I had to change my diet habits to no salt. I am looking forward to going home and celebrating my granddaughter’s 1st birthday and see all my grand kids and family.”

“I was in bad shape when my journey with blood poisoning began. My legs had no strength. The hospital told me I couldn’t return home. Once I arrived here, I never had to worry about anything. I’m not exaggerating. Staff anticipated my every need. They were never in a rush when it came to my cares. If I was moving slow, they just visited with me and helped me along. Therapy was provided at my bedside. Recovery took longer than I wanted it to, but staff here made it fun for me. I never felt alone or bored. In fact, I’d even go as far as to say that I’m going to miss all the attention. It’s really been fun.”

“That day, I was scared. I have never been in an accident or in an ambulance ever in my life. I went directly to Regions Hospital. Dr. Horgan became my doctor and surgeon. He and the Regions team performed multiple surgeries on me. I experienced a shattered pelvis, femur, ankle and right foot. Multiple plates, rods and screws have re-built me. Healing my foot and ankle has taken the longest. I left Regions Hospital October 2, 2018 and came to The Emeralds at St. Paul for recovery and rehab. Initially I wanted to go home, but I knew I would need help with my wounds and daily needs, like getting dressed and showering. I knew I needed 24/7 nursing care and therapy to walk again. I could not have done this at home so I came here to The Emeralds at St. Paul. My goal when I came here was to walk again. The therapy here is awesome! They were determined and patient with me. The nurses and CNAs are so good here to the people – they listen and talk to us. They care. I have never been to a skilled facility before. I was scared at first but the team here has made me thankful and grateful. I am looking forward to going home in the next few weeks.”

Mr. Johnson is now ambulating > 1000 feet with a walker. He has weaned from continuous trach dome to a speaking valve. His trach has been downsized and he is beginning to cap with the goal of decannulation. He has learned how to manage his tube feeds with minimal assist and is learning how to perform his trach cares independently. Mr. Johnson has made tremendous progress and is well on his way back home!
